Man falls asleep on rail tracks and loses arm
FORT SMITH, Ark. - A man fell asleep on railroad tracks and lost his right arm early Wednesday and then asked police who were first to find him for a glass of water, authorities said.
Officers found Bobby Joe Medlin, 31, covered in blood on a porch near the tracks, and he asked for water before they noticed his arm was missing up to his shoulder, Sgt. Jarrard Copeland said.
A firefighter found Medlin’s arm about an hour later, but doctors said it was too damaged to be reattached.
Medlin, of Van Buren, was involved in a car crash and checked himself out of a hospital against medical advice hours before losing his arm, Copeland said.
